It’s Friday – which means it’s time to dust off the old MOMocrats tradition (since 2008!) of kicking b of drinking a cocktail dedicated to one of the week’s looming political figures.
We could have gone positive on this, by drinking to the pro-choice women in the Senate, House and state legislatures who have had to fight for us to hold on to basic family planning and healthcare services. They are heroes.
We could have dedicated a drink to Olympia Snowe, who has decided not to run for rel-election in Maine (which — God willing — will open up that election to a pro-choice Democrat). Yesterday, Senator Snowe was the only Republican to vote “no” with Democrats on the Blunt Amendment, which would have gutted the Affordable Healthcare Act.
We could have honored Sandra Fluke, the Georgetown University law student who was denied an opportunity to testify in favor of coverage for contraception at Darrell Issa’s infamous hearing on the subject last month. House Democrats allowed her to have her say at an unofficial hearing — only to have her be slandered publicly by the Republican’s Bully-in-Chief, Rush Limbaugh.
We are not going to repeat Limbaugh’s remarks. We don’t have to — they have been picked up and amplified through every branch of the media, and the more attention he gets, the more he ups the ante.
As a mother, I want to wash his mouth out with soap (an old-fashioned and abusive punishment that has gone out of style, so would probably appeal to Rush and his ditto-heads).
Instead, I am dedicating to him this real cocktail I found in the Mr. Boston: Official Bartender’s and Party Guide
– The Sewer Water. Don’t worry — this drink tastes a lot better than it sounds. Or for that matter, Rush Limbaugh.
1 oz. 151-proof Rum
1/2 oz. Gin
1/2 oz. Midori Liqueur
Pineapple Juice
Lime Juice
Grenadine
In hurricane or parfait glass, splash some grenadine. Add ice, then rum, gin, and melon liqueru. Fill with pineapple juice and float lime juice on top.
DISCLOSURES: The MOMocrats has not received any promotional consideration for this post, however, the link to the book above is the MOMocrats’ own affiliate link. image at left is not one of the actual cocktail — if anyone makes one this weekend, please take a photo and send it to us!
I should use this for my 5:00 Fridays today!
Be our guest!
