The news out of Washington has been apocalyptic and scary. And we’re not just talking about the latest rants from Michele Bachmann.
Let’s face it: When times are bad, NOTHING lifts your spirits like a little pampering: a haircut, a manicure, or something new to wear. So in the spirit of trying to deal with a political reality that has become batshit crazy, we feel it was the perfect time to give the MOMocrats site a little makeover: We have freshened up our banner and logo with silhouettes of a sassy Lady Liberty passing the torch down to her daughter.
The concept was the brainchild of MOMocrat Cynthia Liu, who envisioned a “Mama Liberty, holding on to Little Liberty’s hand.” She wanted an image that conveyed the message, “When Women Vote, We Win.” And she wanted website visitors to think of modern day heroes like Nancy Pelosi. Judy Chu. Barbara Boxer. Nydia Vasquez. Barbara Lee. Tammy Duckworth. Tammy Baldwin. Ann Richards. As Cyn puts it:
OMG, a long line of so many outstanding women who get shit done.
MOMocrat Donna Schwartz Mills felt it was also important to allude to the stars and stripes of the American flag, because she is “tired of seeing conservatives hijack our nation’s symbols from the rest of us.”
The team brought in Jen Giacaolone Design to translate these broad ideas into the stylish graphic you see displayed now on this page. Jen came back with a couple of concepts that were so good, we decided to ask her to morph them into one… which she did.
We think our new, more modern look is in perfect line with our direction in 2013 and beyond: Supporting progressives who are in office and electing more of them so we can feel confident again that our children will have the same access to education and opportunities that we had.
