President Musk's MAGA Shutdown

Trump's boss engineers a little holiday present for the nation

Welcome to our new web home. We hope you bear with us as we kick the tires on this platform and figure out how best to communicate where to find our podcast and other content.

As we recorded this week’s podcast, Congress was in turmoil because a carefully negotiated bipartisan continuing resolution displeased Elon Musk, who sent out over 100 tweets disparaging the deal - even though, up until then, the candidate he supported seemed to be on board with it.

One cannot help but notice that the unelected immigrant billionaire seems to be calling all the shots, which has resulted in people referring to him as “President Musk.”

Other Topics Discussed in This Week’s Podcast

  • GOP floating the idea of eliminating the FDIC

  • Ongoing threat to Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid

  • The role crypto may play in the new kleptocracy

  • Drone madness

  • ABC News’ $16 million public betrayal

Number 47 is still weeks away from taking the oath of office, and the chaos he fostered during his first term is already dominating the public discourse. One thing the MOMocrats have vowed to do this time around is to pace ourselves.

“I hope that everybody takes these things that they are threatening to do - say they want to do as the dangers that they are,” says Aliza. “It’s dangerous that these are goals of theirs. Before we panic about it, and feel like - you know, the country won’t survive this…. Do yourself a favor and maybe - and I’m not being snarky about this - do a little bit of research. Can this happen? What’s required? Is it easy to eliminate the FDIC, for example? Is it easy to privatize Social Security? Are these things just going to go away? And you know, the answer is, not that easily. It’s not going to happen like that.”

Stop Being Squishes

Once again, we lament the decision of many Democratic leaders to act as if this is politics as usual. As Karoli says, "Nobody cares how bipartisan you are." Especially right NOW. People disengage because they need to live their lives. And there’s NO REASON to engage if Democrats are talking about how they are going to compromise. And then WE LOSE ENTHUSIASM.

In normal times, we want to see them accomplish things. BUT THESE ARE NOT NORMAL TIMES.” By saying they will listen to RFK Jr, that legitimizes him. When they indicate they’re taking the Pete Hegseth, Kash Patel, or Tulsi Gabbard nominations seriously, it indicates to the public that welcoming them into the Cabinet may not be insane.

We do not understand this strategy AT ALL (because THERE IS. NO STRATEGY)

What we NEED right now is a Democratic leader who will step up and be a real shadow President. It could be Kamala Harris. But if it turns out to be Gavin Newsom, Gretchen Whitmer, or another tough leader, that's OK.

The bottom line is: we need them to step up NOW.
